Candlestick context over candlestick names
Pattern labels help memory; location in the swing decides whether the pattern deserves preparation time.
Hammers in the middle of a range are trivia. Hammers after a measured pullback into prior demand are candidates for a waiting rule. The difference is context — and context is what our Saturday workshop drills until naming a pattern without location feels unfinished.
A simple filter
Before you write a pattern name in your notes, answer:
- Where are we in the higher-timeframe swing?
- Is this print occurring at a level you already respected on the map?
- What would cancel the pattern reading within one or two sessions?
If you cannot answer quickly, keep studying the structure map instead of collecting pattern screenshots.
How this shows up in homework
Participants often submit beautiful annotated engulfing patterns that sit nowhere near their own levels. We send them back with one comment: show the swing first. It is not harshness; it is preparation order.
