Invalidation lines that survive the open
How to write a stop rationale during swing preparation so the first noisy hour does not invent a new rule.
Stops that move mid-morning usually started as vague ideas the night before. “Below the candle” is not a level. “Under Tuesday’s low if we are treating that low as structure” is closer.
Tie invalidation to the thesis
If your swing thesis is a hold above prior support, invalidation belongs under that support — not under an arbitrary tick buffer you chose because it felt safe. In chart clinics we ask one question first: what event would make this idea false? The answer should match a print on the chart you already marked.
Separate risk size from the line
Where the idea dies and how large you are are different decisions. Preparation tables in our workbook keep them on separate rows so traders stop sliding the line to fit a preferred position size.
Practice without capital
Print a chart, write the invalidation before you look at the next three sessions, then reveal them. You are training the habit of deciding early — the same muscle the Chart Reading Clinic uses when the room challenges your markup.
